Does applying Undeclared have any bearing on an applicant's chances of admission? Applying Undeclared does not affect admission but offers an opportunity for students to explore before declaring a major. However, selecting "Undeclared" for specific programs (i.e. Undeclared-Engineering at UCLA) does impact admission due to space limitations.
For which programs is the intended major a factor in admission? There are some campuses for which the intended major is not a factor in admission (Davis, Merced) whereas other campuses have select programs where the intended major is a factor (i.e. Computer Science at UC Santa Cruz).
No, UC schools do not require that students submit letters of recommendation when applying.
UC will waive application fees for up to four campuses for qualified students who would otherwise be unable to apply for admission. The fee waiver program is for United States citizens, permanent residents, and applicants eligible for AB540 benefits.
You can see if you automatically qualify for a fee waiver within the application. If you enter your family size and income in the “About you” section, you will see if you’ve qualified for an application fee waiver when you select your campuses in the "Campuses & majors" section (a message will appear on that page with real-time feedback about how many campuses you can apply to for free).
Do I need to send my transcripts (including community college/online) along with my UC application?
Please note that you will NOT need to request transcripts when applying to UC schools. You will need to submit a final transcript only after you have committed to a UC school.
Do UC's consider freshmen year grades?
Freshmen grades are not factored into your UC GPA. However, UC's will review your 9th grade classes and grades to determine any trends in your performance (whether you struggled initially but improved, consistently performed at a high level, etc.)
