Hello and welcome to the Room 4 family! It is my pleasure to welcome you all into Second Grade and this classroom. For those of you that I have not had the pleasure of meeting yet, my name is Kevin Miller. I will be your child's guide on the many learning experiences they will encounter in Second Grade.
I am 30 years old and a graduate of UC Irvine. My wife Stephanie and I live here in Irvine with our cats Luna and Pixel. We love to travel and be outdoors! I am a big sports fan and love to support many of our local pro teams. You may even see me playing basketball in the gym with some other IUSD teachers one of these days!
Five years ago, I had the privilege of being a part of the founding staff here at Beacon Park. Now we are here in year six, and our school has grown so much since then! I have been working in IUSD for 8 years now and loved every second of it. I serve on a number of district committees (focuses include the use of technology in the classroom and social studies instruction), and look forward to bringing my expertise into the classroom. My experience at Beacon Park has been a magical one. I have learned so much from the teachers and families here, and was even selected as one of four recipients out of over 200 to receive the IUSD Teacher of Promise award in 2017, our inaugural year.
I believe in empowering students and fostering a love of learning. Your students will be challenged in this class to become independent thinkers, problem solvers, and motivated learners. I believe in encouraging independence and promoting student choice in the classroom. I want to make your student loves this classroom and learning in general.
I am so excited to work with you all this year. I look forward to meeting you all soon!
Sincerely,
Mr. Kevin Miller
This page will be updated throughout the year with some questions that are commonly asked throughout the year. Have a question that isn't on here? Email me with your questions and I can add them to the list with the answers you seek!
Is homework due every night?
While we will check every day to see if homework was done every night, all four weeknights of homework are not due until Friday. This gives students a chance to plan their work for the week in a way that works for their after school schedule and take control of their learning.
Where can I pick up my student after school?
We will dismiss students right from the classroom. Please make sure to be there to receive your child or arrange a place on campus that they can meet you.
How can I help the classroom?
Classroom donations are always immensely helpful to help us do all the things we want to do in the classroom but lack the funding for. You can find our classroom Amazon wish list on the official Second Grade website.
How often will I receive communication from the classroom?
You will receive a digital newsletter weekly updating you on what's going on in the classroom as well as important news and information to keep in mind. Please be sure to review these newsletters whenever they are sent out.
