TEACHING PLAN

Projects:

P1: PAVILION (20%)

The project takes students into the exploration of the Three School of Thoughts - Civic Narrative, Technic and Poetics through designing a small scale pavilion project. The aim of the project is to understand the various schools in which renown architects always positioned themselves in. The students are provided with various readings and precedent projects to assist them with understanding the schools. The project is divided into 2 parts - the first (10%) is to test all 3 school of thoughts in a conceptual pavilion design and the final 10% is to develop one of the more successful conceptual pavilion design into schematic stage.

P2: OPEN DESIGN STUDIO (70%)

The students will embark on further exploration of their chosen school of thoughts from the pavilion project into an open design studio project that demand greater architectural considerations. The briefs calls for a Studio Design for use by beneficiaries from the same field be it architecture, interior design or others alike and it can be both practitioners and also students. With Cyberjaya as its context, the students will need to do demographic studies as well as incorporating design aspects that strengthen their school of thoughts. The challenge is to maintain the same rigor of thoughts as the pavilion design and at the same time comply to greater scope of work in terms of spatial requirement, basic UBBL and fire safety, services, structure, construction and materiality.
