I have spent a summer in Eli Lilly where I created many connections, learned more about the pharmaceutical industry, and grew more professionally. I was accepted into the summer program that was hosted by the Center for Leadership Development (CLD) program. My tasks at this summer experience included archiving files, creating destruction authorization forms, shadowing, completing a chemical inventory, and creating an overall summer experience presentation and video.
This experience taught me to be a great team member by allowing me to be reliable in creating files that needed to be done by a certain timeline in order for others to complete the rest of their tasks. During this summer program, I was able to use my strength of being neat and clean to create chemical tags for the chemicals used within the labs to provide adequate labeling of hazards, and expiration dates. I endured and presented my time management skills and dedication by being on time each and every day and attending everyday of the summer program.
My experience with this summer program aided my interest more in chemistry knowing that the science could help guide to the creation of a medication that could help save the lives of millions.
I was accepted into the position of becoming a teaching assistant with my professor for this course, who I had already worked with for a whole summer creating documents for the course. During this position, I have been assigned to aiding a blind student in the course. I've had to learn how to adjust assignments for him to be able to complete. This experience has taught me that I thoroughly enjoy helping others, and a future in tutoring/mentoring other students wouldn't be a rough thing for me to do, since I really enjoy it.
This position has taught me that having blinds students who need auxiliary aid is a task that is very much a new adjustment, but it opens he professor and I's eyes to see the responsibility that blind individuals have, but are very much capable of succeeding with just their ears. It amazed me how my student can explain to me his calculations through the use of his voice in a small, concise, and efficient way, and holds a very strong memory. I enjoy working with individuals with different needs than me for me to be exposed to the tasks that others go through. I love facilitating homework assignments that adhere to my students need.
