Professional Goals

Beginning of the Year Goals

  • Become proficient in the basic techniques taught in the lab, get comfortable working with the mice, and learn basic knowledge and protocol in the human study.
    • To achieve this I will practice skills frequently that have already been taught to me and ambitiously pursue more advanced techniques.
  • Grow professional network
    • Foster relationships with people who I work with in the lab and attend Monday meetings to grow my network outside of the lab.
  • Help design a new experiment to test on a cell culture.
    • Work alongside co-workers to think of a new experiment to test on the cell cultures and see its effect on bone structure and density.

To accomplish these goals I will need to gain a much deeper understanding of the inner processes that happen within bone and learn more about the many ongoing projects at the lab. To do this I will continue working diligently in the lab and in my spare time read up on recent published articles concerning osteoporosis and osteopetrosis.

Mid-Year Goals

  • Finish my current experiment and another one that will measure how an experimental drug affects osteoclast resorption activity.
    • To do this, I will need to be very diligent in my work and stay focused.
  • Complete a poster that I can be proud of and hopefully contains relevant information that can advance the current knowledge about osteopetrosis.
    • Continue in my experiments and learn how to properly present the data that I will have found by the end of the semester.
