I am a hard worker, a quick learner, and am good in a group setting. I make sure that everyone has a chance to contribute and experience new things.
Being a hard worker allows me to have a good work output-- I complete my tasks efficiently while still ensuring the quality of the outcome.
I think quickly on my feet, allowing me to come up with solutions to issues promptly as they arise, which lets me be a dynamic problem solver, which is necessary in a team setting.
I want to :
Learn how to communicate in a professional manner
Learn more about medical settings
Build my professional network
To achieve these goals, I will be regularly collaborating with the medical professionals I meet at the clinic, and working to build a rapport with them. I will also be asking lots of questions, trying to learn as much as I can about the clinic and common medical practices.
Reaching these goals are important to me because I aim to be a medical professional in the future. Dentists work with a lot of other professions to help their patients, and I want to develop the skills necessary for that to best benefit my future patients. Achieving my goals for this internship is integral to my journey to becoming a dentist.
By working with people with diverse perspectives, I have learned about how different healthcare professionals approach care which will allow me to come up with my own philosophy that will guide how I care for my patients. Because all of the members of the team come from different professional backgrounds, there are many solutions that can arise to solve a problems, and the goal of the clinic is to meld these different perspectives into one cohesive care plan.
I observe clinic flow to watch how a multitude of professions work with one another to create a shared care plan for a patient with chronic pain. The professions at the Chronic Pain Assessment Clinic (COPAC) include family medicine, chaplaincy, dentistry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and pharmacy.
My specific role in the clinic is to collect data (who was present in the clinic and scores from a packet that patients fill out), make sure the clinic is running at a timely pace, and help with tasks like creating infographics and helping check on patients and deliver/analyze the packets the patients fill out. By doing this, I play an active role in the care of patients by making sure they receive timely and thorough care and helping with the background work that the healthcare professionals do to prepare for patients.
