About the Internship
At the IPEC (Interprofessional Education Center), work is centered around professional development-- how to become more confident and build interprofessional relationships. In clinics with Doctor Newton, we will be observing patient-doctor relationships and studying social determinants of health.
The Purpose
The prupose of my site is to research and optimize team-based care for patients with chronic pain and/or opioid use disorder. By doing this, we incorporate multiple professions into the care of a patient, and view their health from many different lenses, allowing for the thorough evaluation and care plan that best benefits the patient. Many primary care providers faced with a patient with chronic pain simply diagnose them with fibromyalgia (especially women) and send the patient on their way. They don’t take the time to properly evaluate and help the patient. My site recognizes this and takes the time to properly care for these patients.
Project Summary
This project is a slideshow detailing what team-based care is and the model the IU Health Primary Care Central Indianapolis - Family Medicine Residency employs in two collaborative care clinics: Buprenorphine Clinic and the Comprehensive Pain Assessment Clinic (CoPAC). The slideshow reviews clinic flow: huddles, patient care, comprehensive care plans, and the debrief. The clinic's learning environment and specific professions involved in clinic are also included.
