I Am/I Want To Become (2023), Journey Maps (2023 and 2025), and reflections on the Artifacts.
Introduction
Artifact 1 - Part 1 is my I Am/I Want To Become statements. The goal is to identify where I am and where I want to go in order to compare it back when I'm further along in my journey and see how much I've changed. Take the below statements from 2023, which I will analyze in order to determine how I've changed and/or stayed the same.
I Am (2023)
I am hardworking and driven, as an Honors Presidential Scholar serving as President of the Francophone Student Association and Secretary of the Honors Arts and Culture Society. I am empathetic, which shows in my passions for friendship, connection, social justice and sustainability, as demonstrated by my minor in Sustainable Management and extensive volunteer work in the realms of politics and sustainability. I am perseverant, which is shown through my academic & personal accomplishments despite the limitations in the programs for my majors; and I am committed to creating a better life for myself and those around me through my work and actions, which is shown by my ability to connect to others, the quality of my work at the restaurants at which I have been employed, and my dedication to constant improvement.
I Want To Become (Short-Term) (2023)
I want to become a more purposeful student by further exploring my academic interests and diving even more into the world of sustainability (the field that I will work in upon graduation). I want to become a service-based learner, with volunteering for the Spanish- and French-speaking communities of greater Indianapolis and for sustainability-related causes. Currently, my greatest goal is to intern with the Office of Sustainability at IUPUI, and I am taking the steps to pursue this. I want to become a more global learner by taking more classes related to international learning, becoming fully fluent in French and Spanish, and studying abroad in Puerto Rico and Quebec, Canada in addition to the study abroad trip to Costa Rica I already embarked on. I also strive to work sustainability into my daily life more and more each day, with a specific focus on reducing the plastic that I use and emissions that I give off. So far this year I have accomplished this by: switching to bar shampoo/conditioner and bar soap; using a face wash and moisturizer that come in a glass bottle and are refillable; using refillable deodorant; using bamboo toilet paper or toilet paper made out of recycled paper fibers; buying secondhand clothes and regularly cleaning out my closet to donate clothes that I do not need; learning to cook so that I can make foods that I like to discourage any food being thrown away; reducing food waste in my workplace by completing waste logs and using every bit of food that I can, especially during prep and managing end-of-night leftovers; reducing plastic use in the workplace by bringing my own Tupperware, reusable cups and beeswax wraps for any food that I may eat on my shift and using metal silverware instead of plastic silverware for any of the line cook's needs; getting a job closer to campus to reduce my commute; riding my bike to my classes; et cetera.
I Want To Become (Long-Term) (2023)
I want a career that is fulfilling, works directly for and with the people/organizations/cities, and allows for constant growth and learning. For these reasons, I plan to work in the sustainability field upon graduation. I would like to be either a green city planner/consultant, or in a position that works directly with underserved communities to discover their needs and wants and create a plan of action to address them in a way that also increases the sustainability of their lifestyles. I also want to provide sustainability education to those who mainstream sustainability education is not catered to in the United States, such as those who do not speak English. I would love to work as a translator for an organization whose mission falls within the realm of sustainability.
Primary Audience
The primary audience of Artifact 1 is recruiters for jobs or for graduate school. The purpose of the Artifact is to show the type of student and worker that I am in order for recruiters to understand the unique qualities that I bring to the table.
Secondary Audience
The secondary audience of Artifact 1 is prospective Honors students. Through this Artifact, I hope to give students a solid example of what being an Honors student can look like in order to inspire them and get them thinking about what kind of Honors scholar they want to be.
Reflection
I changed in many beautiful ways, as did my goals. In "I Am," my passions did not change, but my employment did; I work in the National Student Exchange office rather than in a restaurant. In "I Want To Become," my desire to be an intern at the Office of Sustainability was replaced by my desire to intern in court interpreting as I realized that I would prefer a career in language and law to a career in sustainability. I didn't study abroad in Puerto Rico, but I did keep sustainability close to my heart as it guides me in what I do every day. I may not see a career in sustainability in my future anymore, but I still work with underserved communities and help them make action plans to move forward and heal at the Prosecutor's Office.

Introduction
Artifact 1 - Part 2 is my Journey Map from HON-H 200. Unfortunately, I cannot locate this map from my HON-H 200 class. To supplement this Artifact, I created a journey map based upon my aspirations in Artifact 1:
I then re-made the journey map to reflect my present-day goals:
Reflection
My 2025 journey map is much simpler than the one that I (would have) made in 2023. I'm envisioning a clearer path now than I did before, as I have gained so much experience since my freshman year that has given me a better idea of what I want to do with my life. Where I once thought I wanted to have a sustainability-related job, an internship during my sophomore year at a sustainability nonprofit made me realize that this field did not capture my attention nearly as much as I thought it would. I then had to pivot and had to research other possibilities. When my roommate let me know about the need for interpreters at the Prosecutor's Office and encouraged me to get involved, a new door opened for me that has turned out to completely capture my interest and put passion back into my work.
Volunteering at the 2024 Indy Mock Hundred before my internship at the Prosecutor's Office allowed me to get acquainted with trial proceedings and the rules of evidence, and sitting through 12 hours of mock trial over the span of two days without ever losing interest showed me that there might be something in it for me. I still want to work with community and use my languages, and I'm doing that more than I ever did before in my new role. Additionally, I have gotten comfortable with the idea of taking a gap year, and will be doing so before applying to law school. I intend on taking the LSAT in June before application season begins in the fall. While I still don't know where I want to go, I will take the time to research to find out where might work best for me.
