Capstone Internship

About Baptist Health Floyd and What I do:

Since Baptist Health took over Floyd in 1953 they have emerged as a regional healthcare provider with a team of more than 2,000 employees. Baptist Health Floyd is a 250 bed facility. At BHF I am working with the Executive Council. Over the first couple of weeks, I held zoom interviews with each department head. Human Resources gave me access to data sets and surveys to analyze.

Personal Development

At Baptist, I was be able to develop my transferable skills to work on projects on and off-campus. I was given access to BHF's turnover rates and the employee engagement surveys that employees took and analyzed the data. I would like to further work on my data analyst skills and how to present them without being told what to find.

Academic Connections

The classes that I connected to my internship were Advanced Finance and Budgeting, as well as a Human Resources class. I believe that the career preparation class has helped find an internship and that the capstone course is helping me prepare for real life job searches. The material was covered so quickly that I wish we would have focused on the main headliners. I think that having a class that brought the students together in the 2022 graduating class would have been beneficial.

Learning Objectives

Throughout my internship I have communicated with the c-suite executives, worked closely with the human resources department, as well as the financial department. I believe that through my introductions I made a strong impression with members of the Baptist Health team. Baptist Health may have an opportunity for me within one of their departments.
