Throughout my four years of undergraduate study at IU Indianapolis, I have focused my efforts on gaining laboratory skills to enhance my future ability to obtain a career in the forensic science field. The artifacts below are indicative of a few of my accomplishments over the previous years and demonstrate my proficiency in the field.
I created this presentation as an honors contract for the PSY-B110 Introductory Psychology Course. Its purpose was to connect psychology to forensic science through analysis and explanation of a real criminal case. For this project, I researched information on the connections between forensic science and psychology. This artifact aided me in developing my ability to research and synthesize multiple sources of complex information to teach others about a specific subject. By doing this, I learned more about forensic science and was able to analyze a criminal case involving both psychology and forensic science.
This manual was a product of an independent forensic science research course created during the Fall 2025 semester. To begin this project, I had no knowledge of the OSIRIS software or what purpose it served. Therefore, I began with no information on the subject and had to ensure I was properly educated before attempting to create guidelines for how to utilize the software. Engaging in this experience allowed me to further my skills in independent study and create a practical tool for my peers to utilize.
This poster was created for and presented at the Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases symposium in August 2025. The poster outlines the implications of gonadal hormones and sex chromosomes on the Four Core Genotypes mouse model's ability to regulate insulin sensitivity. I began work with this model in the Fall of 2023 and, over four semesters, synthesized my knowledge and experience in the laboratory. Additionally, I was able to present this research and answer my colleagues' questions on the work that was performed and results of the analyses. This artifact aided in developing my forensic science laboratory skills by allowing me to gain hands on experience in the laboratory and practice performing and interpreting statistical data.
REFLECTION
From each of these experiences, I gained insight into the forensic science field that will be invaluable when searching for a future career. I gained skills in information understanding and laboratory skills that are pertinent to and will be utilized in my future as a forensic scientist. These skills, along with my professionalism and work ethic, will be demonstrated throughout my career pathway. My future career goal is to work as a forensic DNA analyst in a crime laboratory. While the forensic science field is generally a very competitive one, I believe experiences such as these three will aid in my ability to stand out when applying for careers in the future.
