I am...
I am a hard worker, as I strive for exceptional grades and always put my best foot forward. I am dedicated to things I enjoy such as volunteering, tutoring, and studying. I am motivated to do well academically by my school as well as the people that surround me. I am caring, and I spend my free time volunteering with organizations or tutoring others. I am a kindhearted person and love helping those in need.
I want to become...
I want to become more involved in my community, whether that be campus life or in my future living community. I want to be a contributing member of my community and be able to help others by continuing to volunteer and participate in community events. I want to volunteer for organizations outside of my academic community to gain a better understanding of the city in which I live.
I want to continue to achieve highly in my academics and make every effort to receive excellent grades. I want to take challenging courses that encourage me to develop my study skills and become a better student. I want to participate in courses outside of my degree plan that broaden my knowledge and make myself a well rounded student.
I want to set and reach for my goals, doing anything it takes to complete them. I want to set high, yet realistic and attainable, goals for my future that I have to push myself to achieve. I want to continue to create goals for my future career as well as my future personal life such as family, friend, and relationship goals. Additionally, I want to create a better balance between my personal, work, and academic life allocating specific time for each throughout my week.
I want to receive a degree and become proficient in my field of study, forensic science. In the future, I want to become comfortable working independently in my career. I want to acquire the knowledge and skills to become an excellent forensic scientist with the hopes of working federally in the future.

I am...
I am a critical thinker and I utilize my strengths to resolve matters and combat obstacles along my journey. I am passionate about science and the ability to help others utilizing information extracted from it. I am precise and often recognize and focus on the minuscule details that may be overlooked by others. I am thoughtful and enjoy helping others and celebrating their accomplishments.
I want to become...
I want to become more community-oriented, not just being involved, but focusing on and caring for the well-being of a community as a whole. I want to seek out volunteer opportunities outside my current organizations to better reach all corners of my community.
As I continue into graduate school, I want to specifically focus on understanding and being able to apply the material I have learned, rather than focusing on the grade I achieve in the course. With understanding will come good performance on exams practicals, demonstrating my ability to carry this knowledge into my future career field.
With sizeable changes in my life approaching, I want to be able to balance school, career, and life simultaneously. I want to continue obtaining academic and professional goals I set for myself while maintaining quality relationships with my friends and family. Additionally, I want to focus more on improving my mentality and developing my character.
As I advance toward undergraduate graduation and proceed to graduate school, my ultimate career goal remains steady. I want to continue building my laboratory and professional forensic science skills to operate as a DNA analyst in a crime laboratory.
REFLECTION
Upon reviewing the two statements from HON-H200, I noticed that they focused heavily on my academic goals. While I did mention a few professional and personal goals, I kept circling back to academics. I feel that this is representative of my beliefs coming into the IU Indianapolis Honors College. While the honors college does value student academics and grades, it is not the sole focus and course grades do not always secure a career. My beliefs have shifted since I wrote these statements, and I now understand that it is important to maintain good academic standing, but that you are not given a grade in your future life and career. It is equally, if not more, important to focus on professional development and obtaining skills that are taken into life's next journey.
