During my Capstone internship, I had the pleasure of working with the Team Member Experience (TME) team supporting Business Continuity Planning (BCP). I reported to the Chief of Staff for the System Financial Team and the Director of Revenue Cycle Services Legal and Audit. This internship gave me the opportunity to learn strategic project management and coordination, which was challenging initially, but soon became a great way to flex the brain muscles.
While this internship was certainly challenging, it was helpful to take the Strategic Planning class as I navigated my project. The classwork I did for this class had many similarities to the work I was helping support for BCP, and so much of the advice that our instructor, Steven Reed, offered was pivotal in my navigation of BCP efforts. In fact, I wish I had taken it sooner to minimize the learning curve that I experienced at the beginning of the semester as I learned a how to strategically manage and coordinate a project.
The goals I initially sought to achieve by the end of my internship included improving my communication, better understanding SFT teams and their processes, and building relationships. During this internship, I collaborated with many stakeholders that allowed me to make connections across SFT. Additionally, my communication and presentation skills were recognized on multiple occasions. At the beginning of my internship, these things felt nerve-wracking to me and I lacked the confidence that I now have in my abilities. Reflecting on my objectives, I am happy to say that I achieved every single one; this internship was exactly what I hoped for and more.
