For the Healthcare Marketing class that students in the HSM program are required to take, we are asked to create a new service that Indiana University Indianapolis could launch to support its students. I chose to create a new Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS) program related to grief support. This project was especially meaningful for me because I lost my father when I was 15 years old. Throughout the stages of life after losing a loved one, one of the most challenging things to cope with is feeling alone in grief. This project was created to support grieving students by addressing the isolation they may feel as they learn to cope with loss.
For the Strategic Planning class that HSM undergraduates are required to take, the objective for the course is to create a Strategic Plan for a healthcare facility in Indiana. I chose to conduct my Preliminary Working Draft on Methodist Hospital. The next step is to create a group and vote on the plan the group would prefer to use to conduct a Strategic Implementation Plan on strategic initiatives for the facility. My group selected my Preliminary Working Draft, so we developed strategic initiatives for IU Health Methodist Hospital. This experience taught me how to effectively manage a project while also taking on a creative and strategic mindset. This way of project management focuses on the objective rather than the process, allowing for unique and fresh approach to project management. It is critical for leaders to be innovative to ensure their organizations stay inspired and competitive.Â
