At my internship site, operations are conducted with a high degree of professionalism. Each employee meticulously documents their interactions with potential healthcare professionals. The staff dynamics are akin to a family, with an open and engaging atmosphere where discussions often extend beyond work-related topics.
The culture at my internship aligns well with my ideal workplace, especially in terms of the freedom to interact with colleagues. However, I sometimes find myself feeling a bit bored due to the repetitiveness of my tasks, primarily involving communication with potential healthcare professionals. While I value social interactions, the lack of physical activities or alternate engagement means to recharge can be a challenge, considering the high amount of social interaction my role demands.
The most striking aspect of the workplace culture is the remarkable openness and friendliness among colleagues. Everyone is approachable and willing to lend an ear, whether it's regarding professional matters with potential healthcare professional clients or personal issues. This level of camaraderie and support was an unexpected and pleasant surprise.
This openness is consistent with my ideal workplace culture, fostering free communication. However, I sometimes find the constant social interaction overwhelming, particularly due to the open office layout at Networks Connect, which contrasts with my preference for personal space. The openness, while fostering camaraderie, occasionally impacts my performance negatively compared to environments where I have more personal space.
At my internship site, teamwork is integral to our operations. Employees collaborate very closely, with each person playing a critical role in recruiting healthcare professionals (HCPs). This close collaboration is essential; without it, the workflow noticeably slows down, highlighting the importance of each team member's contribution.
The work at my site is primarily individual, but these individual efforts collectively contribute to a smooth recruitment flow for HCPs. From recruiting to scheduling and handling client contracts, each task, while done independently, is a vital piece of the larger group effort.
There is a strong culture of feedback and collaboration. Individuals regularly provide feedback to fellow staff members, as well as to the HCPs they recruit or have previously worked with. This feedback can take various forms, from formal journalling of HCP credentials to informal discussions and information sharing within the workplace.
I do feel like a part of the team, especially as my role in recruiting new HCPs is pivotal. While my task is crucial, the site handles a large network of HCPs, and every employee has their set of responsibilities. So, while my work is important, there are times when it feels like just one part of a much larger machine. This gives me a sense of belonging, but also a perspective on where my role fits within the broader scope of the site's operations.
My preference for teamwork involves a dynamic environment with changing tasks, as repetitive work leads to disengagement. An example of this is my role at Amazon as an IOL associate, where frequent changes kept the work engaging. At Networks Connect, although teamwork involves regular interaction and an open workspace, my ideal setting would blend independent work in personal spaces with periodic team reporting. This setup helps maintain my engagement and productivity, aligning more closely with my experiences and preferences for varied and autonomous work within a team structure.
