My Elevator Pitch
About The Internship
In Dr. Tamara Hannon's Pediatric Type II Diabetes lab, the overall goal is to is to take information from the EMR (electronic medical record) and insert specific information into the pediatric type II diabetes registry. As a result of the work, we hope to aid in improving healthcare needs for type II diabetes pediatric patients. One fun fact about my internship is that there is clinical work being done to open up accessibility to new drugs to pediatric patients with type II diabetes.

Workplace
As a team member, my current strengths are communication, collaboration, and accountability. I am an effective communicator, I am always there to actively listen to my team members and communicate to them what needs to be conveyed. I absolutely love collaborating with other team members. Not only does it strengthen relationships, but it also allows people to look at things from many different perspectives. As for accountability, if anyone needs anything from me, they can always count on me. I try to help everyone, care for them, and just be there for my team members.
As a professional and team member, I would like to grow in the areas of time management and leadership. I would like to be prepared for events that are unexpected and finish tasks off ahead of time, so that I do not have to worry about them later on. In terms of leadership, I do think that I am already a strong leader because I am so involved on campus. However, I can always improve and gain more skills. I would like to become more confident in my leadership skills and be able to utilize them to the fullest.
My contributions impacted the goals and mission of my internship team. Working in the EMR, I helped complete and go beyond the amount of the registry we, as a team sought to finish by the end of the year. This will not only help researchers look at the trends of Pediatric type II diabetes patients at Riley Children's Hospital in the future, but it will also allow them to understand what sort of things can be done differently to provide better care to the patients. This is how my efforts played a role in completing the bigger mission.
Throughout my internship, I have worked with and talked to many people from diverse backgrounds that hold unique experiences and perspectives. I have learned that when different people come together, it allows for creativity and innovation, not only in coming up with ideas, but for things like problem-solving as well. When various ideas merge together and collaborations occur, there is a great amount of effective communication that takes place, the group learns to adapt to different situations and perspectives, etc.. And most of all, it creates a work environment that is dynamic, effective, efficient, and one that flourishes. In my internship, having different perspectives allowed my co-workers and I to work quickly and learn from each other every step of the way. This gave us assistance in getting everything complete in time, and even going beyond our goals as a team.
