PhD Student at the University Colorado Boulder
Hello! I am Chinelo Nnatubeugo (she/her), but my nickname is Ellie. I am a Ph.D. student at the University Colorado Boulder.
In May 2023, I graduated from Purdue with a Bachelor of Science in psychology and a minor in sociology.
As a fellow in IPREP, I investigated empathy and sexual harassment in the workplace under the mentorship of Dr. Peggy Stockdale and Dr. Ann Kimble-Hill in the Indiana Creating Accountability and Building Relationships to Eradicate Sex Harassment (ICARES) lab, and leading an in-person empathy study in the Women in Work (WoW) lab. My project focused on how empathy interventions can mitigate the effects of sexual harassment endorsement in male participants.
Currently as Ph.D. Student at the University Colorado Boulder, I am working with Dr. Veronica Derricks looking at identity safety cues in black immigrants patients in healthcare.
My research aligns with my interest in addressing the systemic challenges faced by historically marginalized groups, further developing my ability in experimental design and data analysis. I am gaining professional development skills that prepare me for future research opportunities and academic advancement.
I’m interested in studying social psychology, with a focus on how historically marginalized groups and intersecting identities shape experiences of discrimination and empathy.
This has really deepened my interest in studying empathy and its broader social impacts, and I’m excited to continue my PhD to keep exploring these topics.
