During my time in college, I was able to experience leadership roles, internships, work-study, and volunteer work.
From the winter of 2024 through spring of 2025, I had the opportunity to work part-time in New Beginnings Daycare and their After-School Tutoring Program. Located just five minutes away from IUI in the city of Indianapolis, my responsibilities include inputting data for more than 50 clients, checking clients' criminal background, and tutoring one student with math and reading after school. This prepares me for my next professional step by gaining problem-solving skills when it comes to technical issues, increasing communication skills through tutoring children, and data analysis skills.
From March 2024 to July 2024, I developed leadership skills while serving as the decoration coordinator for a Matu cultural event organized by the Matu Affairs Organization. This event celebrates the agricultural and cultural traditions of Matupi, my hometown. I delegated tasks and responsibilities to four interns involved in the decoration planning, ensuring that we effectively showcased our rich heritage. Through this experience, I gained valuable teamwork, organizational, and planning skills that will benefit me in my future professional endeavors, particularly in team-based project planning.
After almost five months of planning, the main stage decoration turned out beautifully.
My friend and I celebrated each successful tree we planted by counting them on our fingers.
In celebration of Arbor Day and Tree Planting on April 26, 2024, I volunteered for a tree planting event on campus. We successfully planted 20 trees near the Riley Hospital for Children, which is located near the IUI School of Nursing. Through this experience, I gained valuable knowledge about tree planting and a deeper understanding of the importance of environmental sustainability. This experience has prepared me for my professional goals, which may involve strategic planning for the expansion of sustainable landscaping in the future.
