Why I Chose my Internship Site
As a dental assistant, part of my mission includes educating patients on their oral health to prevent complications that can impact their well-being. Throughout my experience, I have learned that there are patients in need outside of the dental practice and that is when I started being involved with community health events. Volunteering in these events also made me aware of the importance of public health and how much of an impact this can be to those who need it. When I was selecting my internship site, I knew that the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health (FSPH) would provide me with a valuable experience that can overall, contribute to preparing me to be a better clinician. I also had an interest in learning how public health manages epidemics such as the opioid crisis, Hepatitis C cases, infant mortality rates, etc. and I was searching for an opportunity in helping the community.
