The goal of this project is to communicate the research of another author to a specialized audience. Through this process, I have acquired the skill of co-authoring and further honed my organization and ability to identify my audience. The writing process focused on identifying my audience and then organizing ideas and points I wanted to focus on. These skills are important both academically and professionally and can be applied to any form of writing from academic papers to social media posts.
Before entering this class, I would organize my ideas before writing usually by creating an outline. For larger more in-depth projects, I would create a document and list the sources and how I would use them and important facts. Composing the grid for the literature review helped me more effectively organize my sources and create connections between many sources. This class has helped evolve my writing process by thinking more about the audience of the writing. Identifying the audience makes it easier to determine the language, style, and type of evidence to use.
Organized and synthesized academic research articles and adapted style, language, and type of evidence to convey the information to a specialized audience
Through my writing in the science experience, I have developed strong skills in researching and organizing academic articles. I can effectively identify the purpose and audience and then adapt the style, language, and type of evidence to suit the intended audience and purpose. This experience has taught me how to effectively communicate with various audiences in many formats including science journalism, website creation, and scientific writing, such as literature reviews. These skills allow me to adapt to different writing styles and present information clearly and appropriately.
Working with hard and fast deadlines while writing quickly on a new topic for a specialized audience was challenging. It required quick adaptation and focused research to understand the subject matter in a short timeframe. Writing for a specialized audience added another layer of complexity, as I had to ensure the content was accurate and appropriately conveyed to that specific audience.
Sharing information in an online format offers great flexibility and allows for a more engaging presentation of information. The use of images, pull-out quotes, and hyperlinks helps to illustrate complex ideas, emphasize key points, and easily connect related resources, enhancing the overall user experience.
