About Me

Summary

I am majoring in neuroscience, and I am pursuing a minor in data science. I am a certified nursing assistant and am currently on the premed track with hopes of becoming a physician in the future. I have chosen this academic path because I am really passionate about science and learning. Given my CNA background, I always see residents receiving medication for their illnesses, but I am very interested in learning about the background of their diagnosis and trying to find better treatments.

Teamwork

As a team member, one of my biggest strengths is my ability to communicate. While I am still learning, I try my best to communicate what I am and am not comfortable with in the workplace as well as ask questions and clarify my doubts or confusions. Another one of my strengths is my willingness to improve. I am always trying to be a versatile member within a group, and help out wherever I might be needed. I respond well to feedback and adapt my approach to make sure I am working efficiently for all members of the team.  This year I strived to be someone my coworkers could rely on and was a sponge for all the new information I was learning. I applied the knowledge from my classes to research and learned so much more about the future of neuroscience.

My Experience and Skills

I have had multiple jobs in the past, but they have varied in between lab technician jobs and CNA jobs. I got my first job as a CNA in an acute care facility in my senior year of high school, and then quit to start at IUPUI in the Fall. During my time there, I facilitated rehab residents’ daily living activities, and Q4 vitals to promote overall patient wellness. At IUPUI, I got a job as a Lab Technician for the Indiana University Genetic Biobank (IUGB), and I worked pulling freezer samples for different researchers around the world. From freshman to sophomore year, I got my second job as a CNA for the summer, however, this job was quite different from my first CNA job. I worked in memory care, and assisted patients with late stages of dementia such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. With this job, I started to develop connections with both the resident's and their families. Now I am working as a LHSI intern at Yadav labs. I have done volunteer work at various events around the school such as Regatta, and I have volunteered for a local soup kitchen in my hometown.

On campus, I am also involved as a PLTL leader for an introductory Chemistry course, and I am an honors peer mentor. As a PLTL leader, I assist students in navigating General Chemisty I, and as an honors peer mentor I help transition Honors College students into their first semester at college. Through my jobs, volunteering, and campus involvement, I have gained a diverse background which allows me to bring a new perspective to the table. Through my experiences, I have learned a strong sense of responsibility and discipline in order to ensure that I am producing the best possible work I can. This not only helps me, but it also helps the members on the team know that they can rely on me to do a good job.

Over this year, I have continued to enhance my skills as a research intern and learned more about the different academic pathways available to me. I am continuing to be a PLTL leader in the fall, and I have been promoted to an Honors Peer Mentor Leader. Over the summer, I am working as a CNA and also plan to get involved in research. I have gained a lot more independece and communication skills; looking to the future, though, I would like to gain more leadership skills. For example, next year, I want to start on my own project, and learn more about neuroscience through my own research under UROP.
