Faculty Equity Learning Community — Indiana University, Bloomington August 2024 - present
STEM Equity Learning Community: Creating More Equitable Large STEM Classes Using Course Data. In this community we develop the skills to have equity-minded discussions about large, introductory STEM courses and analyze course equity reports for the courses taught by instructors in this group. By combining quantitative with qualitative data from our students, we will plan approaches for transforming introductory STEM courses into equitable learning environment.
Career Connections Fellowship - College of Arts + Sciences - Indiana University, Bloomington Spring 2023
The Career Connections Fellowship intended to help faculty make their students more aware that what they are learning in the classroom will be of great use to them in post-college careers. The fellowship is designed to offer long-term faculty the opportunity to workshop -- in a cohort setting -- a course that they already teach or would like to teach, paying special attention to elevating the awareness of how what they teach reaches beyond strictly academic settings. On the most basic level, the Career Connections Fellowship is designed to aid faculty in helping their students better recognize the far-reaching value of what they are being taught.
Celebration of Teaching 2024 – Indiana University, Bloomington
The Faculty Academy for Excellence in Teaching (FACET) and the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) hosted a Celebration of Teaching on October 4, 2024, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm in the Indiana Memorial Union Alumni Hall. This event showcased IUB’s commitment to student success and the evidence-based teaching that supports it. The day included poster sessions, ignite talks (5-minute poster-preview presentations), and a lunchtime panel of award-winning instructors. SEISMIC Action for STEM Department Transformation — Ann Arbor, Michigan May 2024
During this conference, SELC participants and other SEISMIC members will share insights and resources related to large-scale transformation of STEM departments, drawing from their experiences in our collaborative projects. We will also develop plans in and around this conference for the next versions of SEISMIC (SEISMIC 2.0) and the SELC project. We are excited to use this event to both wrap up the SELC project and look ahead.
26th Conference on Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education— Omaha, Nebraska February 2024
The conference is a forum for researchers in collegiate mathematics education to share results of research addressing issues pertinent to the learning and teaching of undergraduate mathematics. The conference is organized around the following themes: results of current research, contemporary theoretical perspectives and research paradigms, and innovative methodologies and analytic approaches as they pertain to the study of undergraduate mathematics education. The program included plenary addresses, contributed paper sessions, and preliminary paper sessions.
SEISMIC SELC Project May Institute — Davis, California May 2023
During this conference, teams from participating institutions gathered to kick off the SELC project. The teams for this project consisted of faculty, students and institutional researchers. This kickoff conference was instrumental in starting the work the IU team continued throughout the 23-24 AY that culminated in a campus presentation of recommendations in April 2024.
