Successes
This year, I have had a lot of success in understanding and connecting information that I have learned from attending weekly team meetings to background research and papers. From this success, I can apply this to succeeding in my future academic and career goals by being able to connect important terms from class to medical terminology within the field of medicine, my career aspiration. This is a major success for me, as it gives me the opportunity to take what I learn in class into the real world!
Additionally, another succes that I had was that I recently had my IRB approved from the IU reserach council! This is a huge win for me, as I now have departmental clearance to file through patient data and perform a retrospective analysis on data that can help me come to a conclusion on my research hypothesis. This is very important in my journey, as I now have this experience under my belt, so I can be more confident when I apply and create research proposals to present to a council!
Challenges
A challenge that I am currently working through is the writing and establishment of the research project. Currently, drafting and reviewing a research proposal, IRB, is difficult due to not having any prior background or previous expereince in drafting one. However, Dr. Coven has been assisting me to overcome this challenge by providing example proposals from past project that he has conducted. Additionally, he has been answering all my questions, as well as hosting weekly conference calls in order to review the proposal and give input on my progress!
