About the Internship
The purpose of this internship site is to help children relieve their brain tumors, and focuses on the mulitdicisplinary nature of medical specialties. The site also focuses on research that strives to improve family relation and support as well. By focusing within the hematology/oncology department within Riley Children's Hospital, a diverse population presents with many opportunties to learn about the complexities within medicine and clinical research!
Through Dr. Coven's research, I am assisting with the conductance of a resesearch project where I will investigate important social determinants within telehealth in children within the hematology/oncology department at Riley Children's Hospital. As such, it is important to address these social determinants using the National Library of Medicine's Telehelath Usability Questionaire, which is an essential aspect of our project! The link to the questionaire can be accessed bellow!
Project Summary
Workplace
Currently, my strenghts as a team member is my communication. I am able to communicate my ideas and bring new perspective to the table. Additionally, my role within our telehealth research project has evolved to develop my important skills such as the administration of a research project, as I am taking the lead of the next steps of the project and the success of current tasks.
This year, I want to grow in my ability to think like a physican, and to be able to identify areas of weaknesses for a career as a physican. I will be able to work on this area of growth my being very invovled within my intnership and by asking many questions, as this will help me determine what I know and what I do not know. Currently, I have grown as a professional at this site by taking charge of tasks and being ahead of deadlines as to ensure the success of the reserach project! This is a skill that I would like to continue to grow, as there is still a lot of room for improvement!
Currently, my contributions help to lead the project, as I am in charge of creating and establishing the tasks to ensure a successful completion of the project. My background research and review of charts of patients at the Riley Hospital are essential to creating a proposal that will then lead to the hopeful conduction of the project within the hematology/ oncology department. This review will support the hypothesis made in the project, as well as decides the critical data needed to come to an appropriate conclusion of the larger project.
Working with Dr. Coven was essential due to his wide range of professional expertise, as well as his background having previously conducted telehealth research projects at Riley Children's Hospital. This background helped answer many of my questions during the process of creating an IRB proposal, as well as when evaluating patient data. His perspective helped contribute to the success of the research project as well as my own progress within research because I learned the specifics on conducting and creating a research project, as well as what review committees look for in a research proposal.
