Heading towards my 2nd semester of my sophomore year I started getting more involved by joining a fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon. I am very happy to be a part of something bigger than me. Being able to help out the community, raise money for St. Jude, and make bonds that will last a lifetime are just a couple, out of the many reasons why I'm grateful for joining this fraternity.
With the Fall semester coming to an end, I would like to reflect my time in KINE-P246. This class was an amazing experience, getting to learn more than just lifting weights. Some of the things that I learned about that I thought were important to me was how to change exercising through demographics, injuries, or restrictions. With that in consideration, knowing what muscles are being worked and what kind of movement a specific exercise is doing, modifications are very important for those that can't do them if that's because of injury or if the movement is too hard. This class also built me up and gave me more confidence in myself by giving me many opportunities to present in front of others, which was not an easy feat for me to overcome throughout middle school and high school. Also getting to know more people in my class that are also in the same major as me has helped out tremendously by making study groups. Overall, most of the knowledge learned in this class will help me in the long run, in life and in my major.
As the Spring semester's end is right around the corner, I would like to discuss some of the highlights from this class! The first being, how well this class has shown me so many different ways to exercise. Taking into consideration that not everyone enjoys the same activities, are not in the best shape, or do not have the same amount of accessibility to a gym. This class (Theory and Practice of Cardio Exercise) has shown me how to modify and/or make exercising enjoyable for any demographic! Another important takeaway from this class is how to prevent health risks and injury prevention. Being taught about how some exercises are riskier than others, will really help me in the long run when it comes to creating workout plans for others and depending on what factors my patient has will help me build them up!
Throughout this semester I have had many great experiences one of them being, teaching a cycling class. I have had some previous experience teaching a class but never like this! Before this I have never took or watch a cycling class before, so my group and I had to do a great deal of research on how to create an enjoyable class! Another great experience this semester was the water class lab. Once again, I have never done anything like this! I enjoyed how low impact it was on the joints and how effective it was. Without using weights or resistance bands like most of the other classes, we used the resistance of the water. For example, if we were doing a chest fly cupping our hands and spreading our arms would provide more resistance. I thought this was a great way to exercise for elders or for people that have problems with their knees or lower body joints!
