In grade 9, S.E.E.S (Service as Action) is a core requirement of the MYP programme. You will participate in a collaborative project by working together with others to address an authentic real world need. Through this collaborative project you can make connections between what you learn in the classroom and what’s going on around you in both our school, local community and the wider world.
Your MYP experiences are officially called Service as Action because we want you to become ‘actors’ and apply your knowledge and skills to real world situations, so that you are learning by doing and experiencing. We want you to build skills that will be useful to you for the rest of your life.
You will have one lesson for service learning every week. You need to take responsibility for staying organised and being in charge of your own learning.
As well as participating meaningfully in your group, you should reflect on your learning and the contributions you have made. Think of these reflections as sharing a story. There will be certain checkpoints throughout the year when you will need to ‘tell your service story’. This means answering a series of questions to help unpack what you’ve learnt from your recent experiences.
You will need to use ManageBac to store your S.E.E.S stories but feel free to share links to other blogs, audio and videos. Not all stories or reflections have to be in written form and you are welcome to be creative. At each checkpoint, you should use the MYP learner outcomes for Service as Action (see below )to help structure your story telling.
