The lighting and Sound workshop will be run by Hassan Rajab Ssentumbwe, our ISU Arts Centre Manager. This workshop introduces participants to the technical aspects of theatre production. Participants will learn and explore how lighting sets mood, how sound enhances storytelling, and how to operate basic equipment in our Arts Centre to support their ensemble creations.
Jill Pribyl is an arts educator at ISU and a former Fulbright Scholar in dance at Makerere University. She will be leading our Dance workshop, which blends technique with expressive movement, exploring styles from contemporary to theatrical dance and Laban Movement Analysis.. Participants will learn choreography, spatial awareness, and how to use dance to enhance dramatic performance.
The acting workshop will be a blend of acting for the stage and acting for the camera with Philip Luswata. He is a theatre/arts development and interactive communications professional. Philip is the director of the Theatre Factory at the National Theatre in Kampala and Lecturer at Makerere University. This acting workshop focuses on voice, emotion, improvisation, and stage presence. Through engaging exercises and scene work, learners will build confidence and refine their performance skills and have a go at acting for the camera.
Angel Kakama is a local capoeira practitioner in Kampala. In this workshop he will introduce participants to Afro-Brazilian movement traditions, emphasizing rhythm, coordination, and physical storytelling. A unique way to explore character and expression through motion.
Kaya Kagimu Mukasa is a Ugandan actress, director, producer, and arts manager. This workshop guides participants through the fundamentals of directing for stage. Learn how to interpret scripts, work with actors, and shape the overall aesthetic of a production.
