MTSS Fidelity Process and Data Collection Tier 3
TIER 3: About 5% of students will not demonstrate appropriate performance with Tier 1 or Tier 2 support. These students should be moved to Tier 3, which involves intensive support that can be delivered in an individual or group setting. It is important to create intervention groups in RtI:Stored!, as group level data will need to be monitored, similar to how you would with Tier 1. Recall that at Tier 1, we expect 80% of students to succeed with evidence-based core instruction. This is similar for our intervention groups. We expect the majority to improve based on the group intervention. If not, it could be indicative of difficulties with the intervention (e.g., lack of fidelity, inappropriate grouping based on need, etc).
Academics:
- Send home a parent notification letter inviting them to a Tier III meeting
- Teacher completes the language checklist within RtI:Stored!
- Modify the plan to include a more intensive research based intervention
- Ensure the intervention is being implemented with fidelity
- Complete weekly progress monitoring charts for each area of concern
Examples of Tier 3 Interventions:
- Reading Mastery
- Corrective Reading
- Phonics for Reading
- iReady (Small Group Teacher Lessons + online 45 minutes per week)
- Sonday
- TransMath
- LLI - Leveled Literacy Intervention
Examples of Tier 3 Instructional Progress Monitoring:
- Istation On-demand skill subtests
- Easy CBM (Reading and Math, but below grade level)
- iReady Progress Monitoring Lessons Passed
- Phonics for Reading weekly word progress monitoring checks
- TransMath (include baseline and progress monitoring chart) (weekly or after every 5 lessons)
- Other Tier 3 progress monitoring such as: sight words, fluency checks, etc. may be appropriate based on the student’s need.
Examples of Tier 3 Student Response Progress Monitoring:
- Istation monthly ISIP
- Easy CBM (Reading and Math, but on grade level)
- Istation ISIP (Reading and Math)
- iReady Growth Monitoring
- Keep track of the percentage of intervention sessions that the student has attended
- Add intervention groups to RtI:Stored! and routinely update progress monitoring data
- Document student progress weekly through RtI:Stored!
- Complete a minimum of 3 intervention cycles with fidelity (6+) with weekly data points
Note: The intervention does not stop after the referral. The intervention will continue with fidelity as long as the student shows need.
