PLACES TO EAT AT WHILE IN PRAGUE
Here is a current list of recommendations for foodies from one of our ISP colleagues, John.
Great Italian: DiNuovo in Vinohrady
Great food. But here is the trick. Go for lunch. Either on a personal day when you have guests or on a week in Prague (October, February break), many Prague restaurants offer limited lunch menus. These menus have great food AND are lower priced than the dinner menus. Definitely worth trying.
We also like Gambero Rosso, and we like Pepe Nero in the Old Town for pizza.
Balam
A Vietnamese brunch that is really good. A mix of Western and Vietnamese, but all with a twist. Very popular. We also like the little Vietnamese restaurant in Prague 6 - Ton Kin. Their soups are great. And portions are large, so be careful not to overorder.
Na Kopci
We take an Uber to go here, and when you arrive, don’t worry that it looks like a shack! Great food. The tasting menus and wine by the glass are fantastic. A Michelin-starred restaurant, but totally affordable. It is where we like to go for special events.
You can take the 131 bus from Hradcanska to U Mateje. The restaurant is next to the church. Run by the Czech “Master Chef,” this restaurant offers very good Czech food. The “eggs” for dessert are fantastic. Lovely atmosphere and good Pilsner on tap.
in Holesovice. Modern Czech food. All products are local. Popular and always good food. The menu changes regularly.
This restaurant is right at the start of the Charles Bridge on the Malostranska side. Very good European food - and in the good weather, you can sit outside. Guests like it as the location is beautiful and the food is very good. The waitstaff is usually very friendly (I hope I didn’t just jinx it!)
A classic among Prague’s classics. A great place for brunch, and guests love it. However, very popular, so be sure to get reservations well in advance.
A lovely restaurant along the river but away from the tourist crowds. Good vegetarian food. It is weird to get to. You take tram 17 from Old Town to Podoli. From there, go toward the “Yacht club” along the river (it looks dilapidated! Don’t be fooled). Go down the stairs, and the restaurant is on your left. You can sit outside along the river or inside.
Georgian food - maybe the best in the city.
Our favorite sushi restaurant in Prague (mid-range). Affordable, friendly. Reservations needed.
We have a few Asian “holes in the wall” that we love. Chop Chop Chilli offers spicy, wonderful noodles and soups. Two locations. We also love Dim Sum Spot, also with various locations.
Our newest find. A great restaurant with both meat and very good vegetarian options. And CREATIVE vegetarian options. Loved it.
A wonderful French Bistro - great wines by the glass. Good prices.
The only restaurant in Prague located in a natural rock formation of the original medieval wine cellar.
And finally, our absolutely newest find - Brambory! A potato restaurant. Better than you can imagine!
