Homework is assigned to meet individual needs of students. It supplements and reinforces classroom teaching and learning. Students who are diligent with their homework get the practice they need, strengthen their work habits, along with learning to work independently. Parental involvement in homework should generally be of a supervisory nature rather than a “teaching” one. The assignment is the student’s responsibility and not the parent’s. Keep in mind, in primary grades students require additional parental assistance.
Homework is distributed daily by every teacher in core subjects (Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Sciences) . It is much more beneficial for a child to work intensely for a shorter time (leaving time for occasional relaxation) rather than to labor with work for many hours at a time. Parents are encouraged to train children to approach homework in this manner. It is suggested that parents exhibit interest in the child’s work, provide proper study conditions, and promote good study habits. Individual teachers will inform students of their particular homework policies.
Homework is mandatory and essential to the educational process. Parents who have questions or concerns about their child’s homework may call or message the teacher to discuss the problem for clarification. Students in all grades use homework assignment logs and parents should check these daily.
Students should take care in preparing their books and materials when leaving school. To help instill responsibility on the part of the students, and for school security, students are not allowed to return to the classroom for forgotten materials after dismissal.
