Our committee, made up of students, parents, and teachers all part of the school community, as well as our Co-Curator, Alicia Sedgwick, meets up every two weeks with progress updates and new ideas. Any questions, feel free to ask any committee members!
Hi, my name is Alicia Sedgwick and I am British. As a teacher/consultant, my passion is helping my students (children and adults) to improve their communication skills and develop in confidence. I was the project manager of the first TEDxYouth event in Monaco, and at ISM, chairperson of the committee, co-curator with this year student Tilda Laukia. I was thrilled when asked to MC the first TEDx in Monaco in 2014. I knew it was a conference about sharing ideas but I didn't realize how the actual experience of working with a team would be the best and most rewarding part! TEDx is so much more than a few speakers and videos - it is about using all the resources in your community. In the case of ISM, we involve as many students, teachers and parents as possible in every aspect of the conference , including the planning, the marketing, the catering, the decoration, the entertainment, the ticketing, setting up the stage, welcoming our guests, reporting the event on social media...there are endless tasks, and endless talents we can tap into. I am loving working with the Team, and hearing their views, and experiencing their fabulous input. It is so exciting to have created this Event and continuing it for the third time in April 2024, and to be constantly learning together as it develops. I was also the MC for TEDxMonteCarlo, and very proud to have had that role, and work with that team, and now created my own TEDxYouth Event at ISM and developed it for the last two Events and now our third.
Carol Modiano
Hello I am Carol, I am Italian but have lived abroad most of my life. My son is currently in year 13 at ISM and is preparing his International Baccalaureate Diploma. I was a PTA Representative for 2 years and it was helpful in understanding the dynamics of the school, the IB programme and I met many wonderful people.
I am always open to exchanging ideas and being exposed to different point of views. I think that there is always something to learn from anyone and I specifically enjoy sharing time with people who are both passionate and opinionated. I have decided to join the organisation of the TEDxYouth event as I think that it is an amazing stage for dialogue and self expression. I am very eager to discover what will be presented on Reality Check as it opens a very wide array of possible discussions. I am particularly curious about what our youngsters have to say. I will be supporting our students with the organisation of the event and the website.
On a personal note I love skiing, dancing and travelling. Am also very interested in finance, specifically the financial markets and international politics, am very eager to read about it on a daily basis.
I am Général Secretary to the Mac club of Monaco. I have a degree in International Affairs with a minor in psychology. Having a vast experience in events organization, I decided to join TEDx Committee to share my knowledge.
Hey there, I'm Lilyan, and it's genuinely exciting to be part of TEDx Youth Monaco team. Originating from Estonia and having spent years in teaching, I find joy in contributing to planning this event. Specifically, I'm involved in the funding and staging committees.
Currently I am studying art business, always keeping the mindset of a forever learner. I love sports and art—they're my go-to sources of joy and inspiration.
I'm excited to see what this year's theme, 'Reality Check,' which covers a broad range of topics, will bring us. I am grateful that in a small country like Monaco, our young people get the chance to share their thoughts on an event like this. Thank you Alicia Sedgwick for making that happen third time in Monaco.
See you all on April 6th!
Hi, my name is Yasmine Vamvakidi, I'm from Greece and I'm a Year 13 student at ISM. Having heard of the TEDxYouth event, I was immediatly interested as these events significantly affect and inspire a community. I decided to join the committee, as part of my CAS project. I believe this event will inspire students, and others, to be more confident and to actively engage in community events such as this one.
Michelle Likhatska
Hi, my name is Michelle Likhatska, and I'm from Ukraine but currently live in Monaco. As part of my IBDP, I have to complete a CAS project, which essentially combines the concepts of creativity, activity, and service. I wanted to do something significant for this project, something that would have an influence on the community I live in, so when the chance to take part on the TEDxYouth committee emerged, I was excited to undertake it. To me, this event is an exceptional gathering during which we as a community share original ideas which inspire and inform us. My hope is that by hosting this entertaining and inventive event, we will be able to motivate individuals of our community to be ambitious, passionate, and driven.
I am a dedicated health coach with a deep passion for holistic wellness, nutrition, and fitness. My life's purpose revolves around positively impacting people's lives by mentoring them toward healthier habits that contribute to happiness and longevity. With TEDxYouth, I actively pursue collaborations with sponsors whose values align with educational empowerment and nurturing the potential of young, bright minds. Our community is wholeheartedly committed to helping students cultivate diverse talents and gain invaluable experiences.
My name is Hannah Gettel, I'm British, originally from Liverpool. I have taught at ISM for 9 years and I am the Director of Studies. I am the school staff contact on the committee. My role is to provide support to the students and parents on the committee and act as the liaison between the committee and the senior leadership of the school. I think that the TEDxYouth event is a fantastic opportunity for our students. These types of events help to build organisation skills, commitment and confidence and look fantastic on a university application or a CV for future employers. I have enjoyed working with the students and parents on the committee and seeing the students grow in confidence. I enjoyed seeing the responses that came from our school community when we asked students, parents and teachers to vote on the theme of our TEDxYouth Event. I think the range of suggestions demonstrated the creativity of the ISM community.
