This chapter book, written by middle school student Anna Du, is a literary non-fiction book which tells the story of the author as she learns about microplastics in her environment, and then finds a way to take action. It connects non-fiction facts as the story is told, making it easy to understand. Make sure, as you are reading, to take notes on the FACTS in the book regarding microplastics. The story elements that bring the book together are not to be considered research material.

This book by scientist and activist Marcus Eriksen is first and foremost an adventure story. The author and a friend construct a "junk raft" made of plastic trash and try to travel from Los Angeles to Hawaii on their motor-free vessel. As the story is told, Eriksen describes the history of the plastic pollution crisis and how we can take action to fight against it.
