The compressor is comprised of an oven and a compression mechanism - in this case a car jack. The oven can be set to different temperatures to melt different types of plastics. A mold must be created to which plastic will be added. This mould is made of a metal, and is placed in the oven/compressor. Due to the high temperatures of the oven and compression mechanism the plastic is melted to take the shape of the mould. As a result, several products can be created from recycled plastic!
Using this machine, one can create a wide range of products. For example, trash cans, clipboards, fruit baskets, or even phone cases!
Stripping all unnecessary parts of the old oven.
Cleaning and scrubbing years of grease and rust.
The completed compressor with car jack and steel compression mechanism installed. A switch was installed to power the heating elements and we fitted a digital temperature sensor to the oven with an external screen to monitor the temperature which sits on top of the oven.
The final product. A tile made out of solid HDPE machined on the CNC machine. Now for a lot more experimenting!
