How much does it costs to live here?
More than 15 thousand euro per square meter. Today is one of the most exclusive and fashonable residential complex in Milan.
Ordinary monthly expenses total to around 1500 euro per month.
The idea and the awards:
The vertical forest (foresta verticale) is one of the most famous skyscrapers in the world and has won prestigiuous awards.
State and replicated in several cities, from Lausanne to Chicago, from Utrecht a Nanjing, because of the mix of sustainability and design
Stefano Boeri was in Dubai in 2007, when he got the idea to build a skyscraper covered trees.
The maintenance and care of greenery are a fundamental part for the life and growth of the inhabited organism over time.
CTBUH award as the best tall building in the wold, of the council for tall building and urban habitatn of the IIT of Chicago (awarded in 2015)
The vegetation:
The vertical forest includes 800 trees, 480 first e second size trees, 300 smaller ones, 15000 perennials, 5000 shrubs.
The vegetable screen doesn't reflect or amplify the sun's rays, but fliters them, without harmful effects on the environment.
The green curtain "regulates" the humidity, it produces oxygen and absorbs CO2 and fine dust.
Iridescent landmark; different colours.
It is an habitat colonized by numerous animal species (1600 specimens of birds and butterflies)
Equivalent of 30.000 square meters of forest and undergrowth
The irrigation system and activities:
24/7 surveilance, with condominiums that have a gym and indoor pool + lounge for organizing private events.
Irrigation takes place largely through a centralised gray water filtration system (waste water fromsinks, tubs, showers). In addition, the project has an area of 500 square m of panels.
The concept:
The concept of the Vertical Forest, that is, being "a house for trees that also hosts humans and birds", defines not only the urban and technological characteristics but also the architectural language and the expressive qualities of the project.
The porcelain stoneware finish of the facades takes up the typical brown color of the bark, evoking the image of a pair of gigantic trees to live in, full of literary and symbolic implications.
The maintainance
The most singular component of this articulated system, now widespread in the urban imagination, is constituted by the "Flying Gardeners": a specialized team of arborist-climbers who, with mountaineering techniques, once a year descend from the roof of the buildings to carry out pruning and checking the condition of the plants, as well as their eventual removal or replacement.
