At their assembly, students shared their learning with students and parents and asked for donations. These donations will go towards symbolically adopting an animal through the World Wildlife Fund organization. We were all extremely happy to have raised Rs 4,290 and even happier to have that amount matched by the ISH Service Learning funds. Additionally, the family of Isabel in 2A has donated a third match, which means the students of Grade 2 have raised a total of Rs 12,870, enough money to adopt three animals!

Grade 2 zoologists and botanists have been participating in a unit about the survival needs of plants and animals. Throughout this unit, they inquired about the basic needs of living things, along with how each living thing is especially suited for their environment. As students researched, they found out that many habitats are being negatively impacted by human actions. Using information from the World Wildlife Fund, students found out that many animals are endangered with threats to become extinct. Fortunately, students discovered that even as young as they are they can still spread awareness and help in raising funds to protect these animals.

This week, students selected the animals that they would like to adopt. They then wrote persuasive paragraphs to try and convince their classmates to choose their animal. After hearing everyone's ideas and opinions, each class held a vote. 2A has voted to adopt a koala and 2B will adopt an Amur Tiger. The third animal will be chosen early next week. Students were excited and felt helpful to be able to raise money for such an important cause.
