Virtual learning in the Senior School will run primarily through our existing Google Classroom platform. Continuous curriculum learning will occur through a mixture of synchronous and asynchronous learning and will be varied, engaging. Your child may be part of an online discussion, may experience a video recording, live teacher delivery, be part of an online quiz or carry out work offline. Students will gain meaningful feedback about their work in a variety of ways to ensure they are progressing. Each subject will have a face to face feedback session included with their groups. It is important that students can demonstrate their understanding and receive feedback about their learning. Students will work both independently and sometimes collaboratively online with teacher guidance & feedback.
The aim of virtual learning is for students to:
engage in new learning, practice, consolidate, and communicate prior learning.
transfer and apply their learning.
Remain connected to reduce feelings of isolation .
Become resilient, self driven problem solvers and critical thinkers.
Maintain a routine and a healthy life/work balance
All students are expected to be present.
Students who do not submit work or show no online presence will be noted on our behaviour for learning tracking sheet and may be followed up with parental contact.
Students will be praised for positive learning online behaviours as usual and both parents and students will be notified.
Keeping a routine is very important for a healthy life balance, maintaining sleep patterns and for reducing anxiety.
To reduce screen time for students, the senior school online platform has been compressed and will run from 9.00 am until 1.30 pm for students, except on Tuesdays when students will have a G meet social chat check in with their form tutors and peers. The schedule needs to be preserved for the online sessions and G meets.
KS3 -We have produced an adapted timetable for your child. You will notice that there are some gaps and no breaks in the timetable as we find that students will naturally take their own breaks and will work at their own pace during the day. We have allocated a weekly chat check in with their subject teachers to connect and gain valuable feedback.
Teachers will be operating VS from 9.00 am until 1.30 pm which means that they will be available to students at their assigned timetable slots for live sessions and feedback, whilst outside of these times they can prepare lessons and gather feedback.
Teachers will post their work on the set days in the morning before 9.00 am for all subjects once a week, except for English and mathematics.
KS4 and KS5 will have the same schedule, but it will be a compressed schedule and students are expected to work before or after the schedule to suit their own routines. The schedule needs to be maintained in order for live sessions and check in chats.
PE activities will continue to be posted and students are expected to do a minimum of 20 minutes of exercise per day. They may do this before, during or after VS.
Every week a range of videos and activities will be posted on the Virtual P.E. Page. Students can choose to do a different activity each day, or they may choose to repeat a workout that they particularly enjoy. The activities are varied and cover a wide variety of sporting aspects. Of course, we encourage all students to do additional physical activity where and when they can depending on their personal circumstances, for example, jogging, swimming, gym work, etc.
P.E. is not timetabled, so students should build time for P.E. into their daily schedules before, during or after VS.
KS3 -Students in Year 7-9 should be accessing the Virtual P.E. Page and taking part in the activities daily. They should also be giving feedback on their experiences via the links which are located next to the videos.
KS4 - Students in Year 10-11 are encouraged to access the Virtual P.E. Page and take part in the activities, although this is not compulsory. However, students in KS4 are expected to exercise for at least 20 minutes every day.
