We find ourselves in very unusual and unprecedented times in this current situation relating to COVID-19 and its global effects. Virtual School is currently our only way of maintaining an effective educational program for our students across all phases of the school. We have utilised it before and yearly we engage in practice to ensure we are ready for any eventuality. The staff at DBGS work effectively to promote good use of time and resources to enable students to get the best out of the experience. Platforms such as Google Meet allow teachers to check in with students as whole classes, in groups or individually in the case of those studying A Levels. We appreciate any feedback given and will act upon this if we feel it will develop the program or delivery in a better and more comprehensive way.
Varied, engaging, and connected to objectives as stated in the National Curriculum for England and Wales.
Ongoing assessment will be done as and when students submit assignments
Learning activities may be completed independently or collaboratively online with teacher guidance and feedback
The purpose of virtual learning is to allow students opportunities to:
Engage in new learning
Practice and consolidate prior learning
Transfer, communicate, demonstrate, and apply learning
In Early Years, all Virtual School assignments will be set via Seesaw. Parents will be given access to Seesaw Classroom to compile evidence of their children’s learning in collaboration and conjunction with the classroom and specialist teachers.
Key Stage 1 and 2 students will access Virtual Learning assignments and lessons on Google Classroom. Completed assignments will be submitted as required.
Communication from teachers will be via Seesaw and/or Google Classroom.
To help all stakeholders with the operational side of Google Classroom, you can follow this link. Teachers will be communicating with students through the dedicated platform as mentioned above. In addition, parents can contact teachers through Seesaw or Gmail.
Please keep in mind that the teacher may be conversing with another student, parent, or supporting their own children during the time you are trying to connect with them, they will endeavour to respond as soon as possible to your question.
Video check-ins will be done once a week, on a Sunday (Year 1 - Year 6) and Thursdays (Early Years). The main purpose of this is student wellbeing and staying connected. Teachers will either host a group meeting that will last no longer than 30 minutes or small group sessions which will last more or less 15 minutes.
Weekly Celebration Assemblies will take place.
Key Stage 2: Mondays
Early Years/Key Stage 1: Tuesdays
To ensure parents are able to spend adequate time with all siblings, the following guidelines are in place to streamline the daily operations of Virtual School at DBGS. Early Years through Year 4 Virtual School work will be released the previous night to help parents set up and prepare for home learning.
Kindly note, students have the whole day to submit tasks.
To prevent students and parents from being overloaded with multiple tasks to be completed in one day, please see below the timetable all Primary School students are following.
Today, we will be having an Options Day. You will have to talk to your parents about the choices you have for learning at home on Options Day.
Example of how it works on a Thursday:
