People do research all the time: if you want to find out more about something you are interested in, you follow certain steps. You have a question, you try to find sources that will help you find answers. These sources might be your friends, other people, experts, books, manuals, how-to videos, experiments, you name it.
In school often your teacher will guide you to the field that you will have to research. The way to tackle it is the same as how you would go about it with self-initiated problems. Probably in school you will have to record your steps, remember where you looked for answers, take notes, and formulate your learning in a formalised way. That is called the Research Process. A tool to help you organise your research projects is NoodleTools.
As an IB school research is embedded in teaching and learning. In the Middle Years Programme (MYP) you will have several projects you work on for the different subjects, with in MP5 the Personal Project: your chance to showcase what you have learned about doing research to create something you are passionate about.
In the Diploma Programme your thinking and research skills will be put to the test, culminating in the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay/presentation.
