3.0 credits of mathematics are required to graduate from Bigfork High School, however, many colleges and programs require up to four years (4.0 credits) of mathematics to be eligible for admissions. We recommend our students challenge themselves through the coursework provided at BHS including four years of mathematics for students entering any sort of post-high school college or vocational training. All career areas need math!

The content of Intermediate Algebra is organized around families of functions, with special emphasis on linear, exponential, and quadratic functions. As you study each family of functions, you will learn to represent them in multiple ways - as verbal descriptions, equations, tables, and graphs. You will also learn to model real-world situations using functions in order to solve problems arising from those situations. Students are required to have a Texas Instrument TI-83 or TI-84 calculator.

In Geometry, students will develop reasoning and problem solving skills as they study topics such as congruence and similarity, and apply properties of angles, lines, triangles, polygons, and circles. Students will also develop problem solving skills by using length, perimeter, area, circumference, surface area, and volume to solve real-world problems. Students are required to have a Texas Instrument TI-83 or TI-84 calculator.

We then dive into systems of equations, functions and their transformations with a special emphasis on linear, quadratic, and rational functions. Students will learn to model real-world situations using functions in order to solve problems arising from those situations. We end the year studying the basics of Trigonometry. Students are required to have a Texas Instrument TI-83 or TI-84 calculator.
