Early Childhood Family Education Program (ECFE) ECFE is a class offered for parents/grandparents and their birth to 5 child/children (preschool age and younger) to come together to play and learn. It is a great way to meet other parents, try out games and activities, and get suggestions on a variety of topics built around parenting and early childhood development. We are accepting registrations August 1st and throughout the school year if spots are available. A parent or guardian is required to attend with their child/children at any Early Childhood Family Education Class or event.
If your child turns 9 months of age during the class and you would like to continue bringing them to ECFE class, they then need to be registered and pay the tuition fee to attend. Before the age of 9 months, they may attend for free and will attend the parent session with their parent.
Classes are held on Thursday evenings from 5:30-7:00 P.M. Two 12-week sessions are offered. Cost is based on a sliding fee scale that is determined by income level. Scholarships are available though educational benefits.
Session One: September 4-January 29
Session Two: February 5- May 21
Tuition is due upon registration and an immunization record is required for each child in the ECFE Program. Please submit a copy by email to nbartsh@isd2899.k12.mn.us, mail to PK-3 Elementary ATT: ECFE, or drop of at the PK-3 Office ATT: ECFE. Registration fees may be paid online (click here for online link), check payable to ECFE, or cash in an envelope ATT: ECFE. Payments may be dropped off at the PK-3 Office.
You will receive a confirmation email in late August confirming which classroom your family is assigned to or if you are on the waitlist.
Feel free to email if you have questions.

The Minnesota READ (Reading to Ensure Academic Development) Act was passed and signed into law by Governor Tim Walz on May 24, 2023. The goal of this legislation is for every Minnesota child, including multilingual learners and students receiving special education services, to be reading at or above grade level. Due to this requirement, our PEM District Calendar, Preschool Calendar, and ECFE Calendar was impacted to include time for staff to fulfill this new mandated training.
