SETTLING INTO THIRD GRADE
Learn more about daily classroom life, responsibilities, schedules, and routines.
DAILY TAKE HOME FOLDER
Your child will bring home a black “take home folder” daily. Please check this folder EACH NIGHT and remove, look over, keep, complete/return any paperwork. Develop a routine that will help you and your child remember to bring this folder back to school every morning.
HOMEWORK AND ASSIGNMENT NOTEBOOK
Homework offers practice and repetition while supporting the development of healthy study habits and time management. It also gives parents a glimpse at the content and skills we are working on as well as an idea of the child’s familiarity and understanding of those areas and skills. Please check and sign your child’s assignment notebook every night. Your signature (and any additional note if needed) tells me that you touched base with your child and took the time to check work for understanding and completion. I will check for signed notebooks each morning.
READING LOGS
Please encourage your child to spend 15 minutes each night reading. Your child may choose to read alone, with you, or with a sibling. As the year progresses, the daily reading goal time will increase to 20 minutes. Weekly reading logs will be kept in your child’s daily folder to record pages read/time spent reading. Completion of reading logs goes toward credit for "homework completion" on report cards.
MATH FACTS
Daily math fact practice (focussing on fact families) makes for a solid foundation as we build the blocks to more complex real-world story problems. You are encouraged to practice with your child daily!
