BRING YOUR LAWN CHAIR!
It's often said that the Jefferson Band Program is like a family, and we couldn't agree more. We would love to see you get involved in our program and attend our outdoor rehearsals - either some or all. Parents/guardians, family, friends, and neighbors are encouraged to check out our practices during the summer and even throughout the school year if your schedule permits. In particular, our August evening rehearsals are a fun way to close out the summer, meet new friends, support our marchers, and generally get connected to the Jefferson Band Program. The Band Booster Club also offers a Marching Band Diner with snacks and beverages. We hope to see you at some or all of our events! Be sure to bring a lawn chair.
TIMINGS & LOCATIONS
All outdoor practices will take place on the marching field behind Olson Elementary/Middle.The small lot next to Johnson Ave. should not be used for student drop-off as it is reserved for our set up crew and large instruments only. Please plan accordingly.
All halftime show performances will be at the Jefferson High School Stadium
Captain practices run August 6-8 from 6:00-8:30pm each day. Captains Practices are led by our 2025 student leaders (Drum Major and Rank Lieutenants), and are aimed at getting marchers acquainted with one another while learning the fundamentals of high step marching. Though these rehearsals are not mandatory, we strongly encourage all members of the Band to attend. Instruments will not be needed for the three days of Captains Practice.
Early is on time! Please plan to arrive at practice well in advance of the actual start time. Marchers are expected to be ready for a whistle and "Attention" command right at the beginning of the scheduled practice time. Be prepared!
Attendance is expected at all practices and performances. In the event that you are unable to be present at a practice or performance, please communicate directly with Mr. Fretland first, then tell your Rank Lieutenant. We all rely on one another to be present, and to bring their best to the group each day.
Instruments, music, flip folders, lyres, drill charts, and pencils will need to be immediately accessible at all times during all practices/rehearsals.
Dress for Minnesota weather. Check the forecast in the morning, and again before you head to practice. It’s easier to be a great marcher when you’re feeling physically comfortable.
If you are being picked up at the end of practice/rehearsal, please have your ride ready and waiting at or before the scheduled dismissal time.

Transportation to and from practices and performances is on your own. Historically, Kennedy, Valley View, and Oak Grove Middle School marchers have been able to arrange carpooling and ride-sharing at the beginning of the season. If transportation is your biggest hurdle, please be sure to make contact so we can find a way to have you join us this season.
