GENERAL ATTENDANCE POLICY
The marching band relies on the commitment and daily attendance of all students. We ask that parents/guardians and students avoid scheduling other commitments during any of our rehearsal times. Because of limited practice time between performances it becomes challenging for students to get caught up on learning their marching and music responsibilities when they are absent.
All students are expected to be present and on time at all scheduled practices and performances unless prior arrangements have been made with the director(s). Students will see punctuality and attendance inconsistencies reflected in outdoor/indoor show performance participation, future leadership positions, end of season awards, and band letter eligibility.
If a student needs to miss a practice or performance, that absence should be communicated directly with Mr. Fretland, not through rank lieutenants or friends. If a student wishes to have the absence "excused" that absence should also be communicated/confirmed through a parent/guardian.
INDOOR ATTENDANCE POLICY
All indoor concert music and a pencil should be present at all rehearsals.
All marchers are expected to attend all indoor concert rehearsals.
Appointments and work commitments should be scheduled around marching band rehearsals.
Rehearsal will begin promptly at 3pm and run until 5:00 pm each day. Multiple late arrivals will be considered an absence.
If a single rehearsal is missed, the student will need to sit in the audience and watch Friday’s performance.
If more than one indoor rehearsal is missed, the student will need to sit out for all three weekend performances.
Being absent from school on a rehearsal day is considered an excused absence. Confirmation from a parent/guardian is required.
Students with extenuating circumstances should discuss in-person with Mr. Fretland.
With our short timeline from first rehearsal to first performance, every day matters. A missed practice means missed marching cues, horn movements, music adjustments and cuts, etc. The indoor concert experience is an exciting culmination of three months of marching and music. We ask all students to commit to all rehearsals and performances.
