Criteria
In order for a student to qualify for reading lab, they must:
score below the 20th percentile on Fastbridge areading and AUTOreading
have at least one additional data point that supports the need for Reading Lab (ex: MCA Does not Meet standards, FastBridge previous score)
not have an IEP with a reading goal
Process
MTSS Specialist, counselors, and reading lab teachers review screening data after each testing window to identify students who may need intervention.
Once a student meets the entrance criteria, the following process supports collaborative decision-making and next steps:
Student meets entrance criteria above.
Reading lab teacher gets recommendation from student’s counselor, language arts teacher, and case manager/EL teacher if applicable.
Language Arts teacher notifies the parent/guardian of their students’ Fastbridge scores meeting the criteria.
Language Arts teacher sends home permission letter (linked above) to be signed and returned prior to starting intervention.
Once permission letter is returned, counselor makes schedule change and interventionist begins intervention work.

Phonics intervention: Fastbridge low risk benchmark met for CBM Words Read Correctly multiple times
Comprehension intervention: Fastbridge low risk benchmark met for CBMcomprehension recall AND comprehension multiple times
Process:
Student meets exit criteria (see right)
Reading lab teacher notifies the student’s counselor, language arts teacher, and case manager/EL teacher
Reading Lab teacher sends home letter notifying the family of exit
Counselor makes schedule change (permission is not required)
