Five/Ten Rule:
FIVE: In order to be eligible to earn a varsity letter a runner cannot be absent from more than 5 practices and meets. Should a runner miss more than five scheduled team events (practices or meets) for any reason, excused or unexcused, the runner will not be able to earn a varsity letter. In addition to attendance there is a competition component to the lettering policy, but to be considered for earning a letter, this five or less absences expectation must first be met.
TEN: In order to be a member of the team, a runner cannot be absent from more than 10 practices and meets. Should a runner miss more than ten scheduled team events (practices or meets) for any reason, excused or unexcused, the runner will be asked to leave the team.
This policy will start with the first day of practice in August and run through the final meet of the fall. Exceptions to this policy will be very infrequent but would pertain to situations of serious illness or family emergency and will be handled on an individual basis. Again, this policy pertains to any absence, excused or not. It is an expectation that all absences should be excused through a coach prior to practice. If not, they will be dealt with on an individual basis - unexcused absences will not be tolerated and more than one occurrence will be grounds for removal from the team.
