Requirements for Participation

1) Attendance

You have become part of a group of people that are dedicated to producing the best possible Cross Country Team.  Regardless of your ability level, consistent practices that are carefully planned are necessary for improvement to take place.  Your dedication is expected and your attendance is mandatory.  Your coaches and teammates need you and your abilities.  You are expected to be at all practices and meets as designated by the coaching staff. We realize that situations arise during the course of the season that might be out of your control.  If it is impossible for you to attend a meet or practice, a coach must be notified.  Communication is required-- MISSING PRACTICE WITHOUT ANY PRIOR NOTIFICATION (a minimum of 24 hours directly to a coach).  WILL BE TREATED AS UNEXCUSED and dealt with (calls home, meeting with parents, sitting out meets)  are methods of management to correct the problem.

*Check with coaches and/or captains about practice during inclement weather. Do not assume there is no practice because of inclement weather unless you know for certain.

2) Punctuality

Each athlete is expected to arrive to practice and meetings on time and ready to run at the posted start time.  Repeated tardies will result in a meeting between the coaches and the athlete and a parent if necessary.

3) Practice Apparel

Each athlete is required to wear running shoes, shorts or warm-ups/tights designed for running and weather appropriate top to practice. Basketball or other long shorts are not acceptable. Failure to wear appropriate apparel will be corrected. Please always wear a digital watch with a timing function.

 4) Meet Uniforms

Team uniforms are to be worn at all competitions. Athletes are expected to wear team apparel at all meets while on meet site.   In any awards or recognition event, team members will wear a team uniform and school affiliated team wear.  We will have a team “camp” once you get to the meet where final uniform /race apparel can be handled.

 5) Athlete Eligibility

All athletes must meet ALL the requirements of the MSHSL, ISD 194 and LNHS to participate. Any violations of rules and regulations will follow the indicated procedures for actions as outlined by their respective guidelines.

 6) Academics

Included in the policies for participation, all athletes must maintain the required academic standard during the season. Any inadequate academic progress will result in an academic probation until sufficient progress has been achieved.

7) Transportation to and from Competition

Lakeville North High School policy regarding student-athlete transportation will be followed.  This policy is as follows: Athletes transported from Lakeville North High School to any away competition via bus must also return to Lakeville North High School via bus or be released to their legal guardian at the competition site.  Policy further requires that any athlete not returning to Lakeville North High School not with the team bus, if approved,  must give the head coach verbal notification and visual confirmation of the presence of a legal guardian before departure. ALL ATHLETES ARE REQUIRED TO RIDE THE TEAM BUS HOME FROM MEETS. Exceptions to this requirement are extremely limited.
