What professional development opportunities have been provided for staff for personal development, exchanges, and support in STEM teaching and learning?
At ISC, our commitment to professional development aligns with our core philosophy of fostering continuous growth and excellence in teaching and learning. Annually, we prioritize providing ongoing opportunities for our teachers and staff to enhance their individual development and contribute to the overall improvement of our services and programs. The leadership team meticulously identifies strategic goals before each school year, incorporating input from observations, data analysis, consultants, IB authorization processes, faculty meetings, and individual discussions. A significant portion of our professional development budget is allocated to address whole-school objectives, ensuring a cohesive approach to staff development. During the professional review process, performance goals are identified, and when necessary, external professional development is financed by ISC to support individual staff members in strategic areas. Any remaining funds are made available through grants, allowing staff members to pursue personal professional development endeavors that mutually benefit them and the school. These grants, up to €500, cover program fees, transportation, and hotel expenses, with reimbursement contingent upon successful program completion and submission of an expense report. Upon return, staff members are required to share their learnings through a workshop at a faculty meeting, providing evidence of practical application. Grant requests are assessed based on their alignment with ISC's program priorities, and staff members may receive a grant once every two years to ensure equitable distribution and maximize the impact of professional development initiatives.
All STEM staff are trained to the minimum requirements stipulated by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). In the MYP program, one member of staff in each subject area is required to be trained. In the DP program, each subject- specialist is required to be trained. The department is constantly reviewing to ensure the requirements are fulfilled.
