MYP eAssessment offers students opportunities to demonstrate disciplinary and interdisciplinary understanding, international-mindedness, critical and creative thinking, problem-solving skills and the ability to apply knowledge in unfamiliar situations. On-screen examinations and ePortfolios provide a balanced model of assessment for schools seeking IB-validated grades. Official IB recognition of achievement in the MYP is only available for students who participate in and successfully complete the required eAssessments.
eAssessment comprises three strategies for assessing what students know and are able to do:
ePortfolios of carefully defined coursework in arts, design, language acquisition, and physical and health education, using a process of dynamic sampling to moderate results to a global standard
on-screen examinations for selected courses in language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, and interdisciplinary learning
personal project: a student-centred and age-appropriate extended project in which students consolidate their learning throughout the programme. While other eAssessments are optional for schools, all MYP year 5 students must take part in personal project eAssessment.
At ISB, ePortfolio is done in Design, and the on-screen examinations are the following: Mathematics (extended or standard), English Language and Literature, Korean Language and Literature, Sciences, Spanish Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies and interdisciplinary. Unfortunately, the IB does not offer Korean Language Acquisition. The MYP coordinator will officially register the students by October 20th. There are placements decisions to be made by the end of September by the mathematics and the language acquisition departments. If a student decides to change its placement level, the late registration fee needs to be paid by the families.
The MYP eAssessments are recognised by Ofqual (UK government qualification recognition agency) as equivalent to GCSE subject grades. If you want to know more about it, you can visit this link: Ofqual regulates MYP eAssessment
When applying for UK universities, students can use the MYP qualifications to support and strengthen their applications. MYP course results and the IB MYP certificate report student ability and achievement, which helps to demonstrate their preparation for further study, including participation in advanced academic and career-related programmes.
The MYP certificate strengthens university applications, because it is an externally recognized qualification that has already been achieved as opposed to predicted DP grades. It is also a good opportunity for MYP students to get accustomed to external examination expectations. It will help them to transition to DP.
If your subject is an on-screen examination subject, you have to familirize yourself with examination marking scheme and past exams on our eAssessment shared drive.
Grade 10 students will have end of term digital exams using AssessPrep in order for them to familiarize themselves with the eAssessment questions.
For the Design teachers, the partially complete unit plan will be provide at the beginning of November.
Your subject might be one of the IDU on-screen examination. The IB releases information on April 1st, the MYPC will relay that information.
Allow time during the year (especially semester 2) for the grade 10 students to practice actual eAssessment. The assessments are available on the eAssessment shared drive. The MYPC and theTechnology and Learning Innovation Coordinator can support you with that aspect.
The MYPC will ask you for predicted grades in February ; the deadline for submitting the deadline will be the first week of March.
