It’s always best to check with your particular Gemeinde but, in general, to bring your pet into the country, you'll need to follow these steps.
You will need to register your pet with the Gemeinde and pay an annual fee.
You need to get your pet a passport that includes its vaccination record.

Pets are allowed in most outdoor restaurants and many stores.
They can ride the Basel tram for free if they fit into a bag, but need a half-fare ticket if they aren’t in a bag.
They can not go into most shops that sell food like supermarkets, bakeries and butchers as well as many playgrounds.
The leash rules are seasonal to protect baby wild animals born in the spring. Dogs must stay on-leash from April 1-July 31, within 50 meters of the woods, in Basel Stadt and Basel Land.
