I chose this research question because I wanted to learn about the Qur'an. I knew that the Qur'an is a holy book in Islam so there are some rules for Muslim people. Christianity and Judaism also has a holy book and there are also some rules for Christian or Jewish. But I thought the Muslim people are living with strict rules than Christianity or Judaism because I knew that the Muslim have to fast, they can not drink alcohol drink, they have religious clothes and Muslim women have to wear special clothes at public place to hide their skin or hair. I thought this lifestyle are come from the Qur'an's rules and I thought that those rules are stricter than Christianity's Bible or Judaism's Bible's rule. Then I wondered why does the Qur'an have so many rules, why are they so stricter than others. I did not know well and I do not have any personal connections about Islam but I was very interested it.
What is the Qur'an? :
The Qur'an is a holy book of the Islam. The Muslim must follow the rules on this holy book and they have to repeat a part of the Qur'an everyday.
Who made the Qur'an? :
Muhammad did. He received revelations from the God (Allah) and he put together those revelations in writing. That is the Qur'an.
When was it made? :
The Qur'an was made in 610 CE~632 CE. But after that, there were many different Qur'an. So during third Caliph (644~656 CE), those Qur'an was unified to one real Qur'an.
Where was it made? :
The Qur'an was made in Mecca. (now we called that Saudi Arabia) Because the prophet of God who called Muhammad was born at there and he received revelation from God over there.
The Qur'an has 6236 rules!!!!! The Qur’an has 114 chapters or Surah. Each Surah is divided into Ayah. Each Surah has different amount of Ayah, so the longest Surah that second chapter has 286 Ayahs and the shortest Surah that 108th chapter has only 3 Ayahs. All Ayah is a rule so the all amount of rules in the Qur’an are 6236 rules!!! That means the Qur'an has the most amount of rules.
The Judaism Bible (Torah) has 613 rules (commandments) . The Judaism Bible has the least amount of rules.
The Christianity Bible has 1663 rules. The Christianity Bible becomes from 2 parts of the Bible. The old testament and the new testament. The old testament is as well as Judaism Bible. And, there are 613 rules. The new testament is original part of the Christianity. This Bible has 1050 rules. (commandments) So the total amount of rule is 1663.
In the words of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Qur'an starts like this. "In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful." The Qur'an also has about touching the Qur'an.
The Taharat is keeping a clean body and environment. To be cleanliness. The Muslim people have to be Taharat many many times so the Qur'an has method of this, the time of this etc. The Qur'an has detail rules of this point.
The Wudhu is a very important act before Muslim people starting the Salat. This action is on of the method to become Taharat. The Muslim will become Taharat after they do this.
This is also the way to become Taharat. But the difference between Tayammum and Wudhu or Ghusl is the Tayammum will use no water to become cleanness, and the Wudhu or Ghusl use some water to become cleanness.
Ijtihad is when decide something legal, the decider is going to decide with his own thinking without following the Quran. The Taqlid is when decide something legal, it will decide by following the Qur'an
Mutahhirat are these five things. “Water”, ”Ground”, “Sun”, Islam”, and “Removal of the Najasat”. These things will make Najis things but some of these, the Muslim people must follow it.
This is very important thing for Muslim people to become Taharat. This action is similar Wudhu. The muslim people must do this but not always when they before do worship.
The Allah has made and place all animals, fruits, and woods. Those things are for his own uses, for eating and drinking, to build his guarding place, and other needs. The Qur'an has detail rules about eating and drinking. For example, how to fishing, about hunting by the weapons, the condition when people kill the animals, and the method or etiquettes eating and drinking water. The Qur'an also has fasting rules that is very strict.
(This image is about Halal and Haram. The Halal is the foods and drinks that Muslim should take it. Haram is the foods and drinks that Muslim should not take it.)
The Salat is the most important action of worship in the Islam for Muslim people. Because the Muslim people are doing Salat to accept by Allah. If they could accepted by the Allah, that meaning is you are recognized by the Allah. In the Quran, there is so much information about this. For example, why do the Muslim people must do Salat, How does the Muslim people do Salat, the Rules when you do Salat, the time when you have to do the Salat, or what ever. The Muslim people must do Salat 5 times in a day. And before they are going to do Salat they have to do Wudhu or Ghusl or Tayammum to become Taharat . The Muslim people must do Salat at before the sunrise, time between noon and afternoon, time between afternoon and immediately after the sunset, and before go to bed. The Salat in Islam has an direction. When the Muslim people do Salat, they need to look at the direction of the Ka’ba shrine of the Mecca.
The Qur'an also has detail rules about Muslim's marriage. First the marriage should do between Muslim and Muslim. Next, the partner should not in his family. Then they have to do formula or if they missed one or more letters, that formula and the marriage are void.
The Qur'an is written in Arabic language and the Qur'an must written in Arabic language. If the Qur'an is not written in Arabic language, that is not a Qur'an. If it is written in English, that is not a Qur'an, if it is written in Japanese, that is not a Qur'an, or what ever. That means the Qur'an cannot translate to other language because that will not become to the Qur'an.
In the words of Dr. V Abdur Rahim, this is “Because Allah chose the Arabic language to carry his final message to all mankind.” In Islam, the all of the things are made by Allah. The Qur'an is the Allah's revelation, in other words, the Qur'an is Allah's words. All things in Islam are made by Allah and all things are decided by Allah. So, the Qur'an's language decided by Allah. Saudi Arabia is making Qur'an for Muslim that is in Arabic language and the government is managing it.
The Muslim and the Quran receiving many effects from the world. Because the world is becoming more modernization. The Islam or the Muslim people or the Quran receiving many effects from world especially from the United States. The politics and the economy are westernized. Also the American culture affect to the Islam very much. Recently, the Islamic society has many changes.
The women must hide their skin and their face by Hijab in public place. And they can only show their skin or hair to their husband. But some women doesn’t hide their skin and the face at public place.
The Muslim people must not drink the alcohol drink because it will connect to forget the Salat. but the American culture affect to some Muslim and they started to drink some alcohol drink.
The Muslim people have to fast one month in each year. The Quran has rules about fasting. But some Muslim doesn’t follow that rules in the Quran and they are not fasting. Because most of the country are not doing fast.
Most of these effects are from the United States, so the Islam or Muslim consider the U.S. to be an enemy. Because the Islamic society has many bad effects from the United States. The Muslim are not following the Qur'an and they are changing their lifestyle from Islamic to American. That is happening now in Islam.
My answer for my question that is "Why does the Qur'an have so many rules?" is exactly like this!
In my researching, the Qur'an said the all of things are made by the Allah and the Qur'an's language also decided by the Allah because the Qur'an is Allah's words. Those revelation from the Allah are the words that Allah wanted all Muslim will be exactly like that. That means the amount of the revelation I called rules are decided by the Allah. The Allah ordered so much rules to us to become the Muslim of the ideal. In my opinion, why does the Muslim must follow the rule on the Qur'an is because to become a Muslim of the ideal of the God. Then I think why does the Muslim want to be a Muslim of the ideal. My opinion is because, if they could became to a Muslim of the ideal, they will be able to become a good person and they will be able to pass their life better. Then, if they could became to a good person and did good things, they will be able to pass nice after life. I think Christianity as well, and the Judaism also as well. So, why does the Qur'an have so many rules? This is because, it became so by chance! If the Allah ordered more less rules to the Muslim, the Qur'an might have more less rules. If the Allah ordered more rules to the Muslim, the Qur'an might have more rules. This is accidentally happened.
