Expectations for 3rd Graders
Behavior Policy and Procedures:
Whole Brain strategies will be applied in our classroom. Here are our classroom rules:
Follow directions quickly
Raise your hand for permission to speak
Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat
Make smart choices
Keep your dear teacher happy ;)
Many of you may have seen the Disney movie, Inside Out.
I liked the idea that was presented in the movie of each person having many emotions that dictate behavior. The Whole Brain approach to learning fits in well with this idea. Taking both of these thoughts into consideration, here are my classroom procedures:
Verbal Warning
Teacher “Inside Out” check. Teacher will pull student off to the side privately for a discussion on the specific emotion that is taking over and talk about strategies to improve behavior. The student will sit out for 2 minutes to think over the skill that needs to be improved.
Skills Coach “Inside Out” check. The same process as outlined in #2, but for the entire break.
If problem continues, parent will be contacted and entrance into the Skill Building Program will be discussed.
Additional “Whole Brain” teaching strategies will be used throughout everyday that includes a class scoreboard where students are earning incentives such as “sticks” to use at the monthly school store.
